Bucks Roll, WolverQueens nearly forget their makeup
Well, OSU ran the ball, then ran the ball some more. It was a dominating performance, and again showed the Big 10 that nobody prepares better than Jim Tressel. The MiniGopher run defense is deplorable, and OSU exposed it, with APitt rolling for over 100 yards and 2 scores, CWells having his first "bigtime" game with nearly 100 and 1 score, and Troy Smith galloping for a 21 yard score, which will just add to his nearly complete Heisman Trophy application. Heck, even Justin Zwick rushed one in. TSmith added a passing touchdown as well, in a rather nondescript performance for him. TSmith has this team cruising at a level that no other team in the NCAA is even close too.
Smith again showed how far he has come at the press conference after the game. After showing up late, and having to run up three flights of stairs to get there, he had this to say about tOSU performance, as well as Minnesota:
"Minnesota came in and was very, very, very physical from the beginning to the end. They did a great job defensively. A lot of Ohio guys and they showed up and they played just like they wanted to make a statement from the beginning. Defensively, what more can you say, a shut-out in the Big Ten against a school like this is very key. It's a testament to the guys that we have as captains and the staff on that side. Offensively, we've still got work to do, putting points on the board is cool, but I guess the way you do it, how you do it is the most important thing. We've just got to keep rolling."The defense was stellar, with 3 picks, in pitching a shut out. This was equally impressive, since perhaps their best player, Quinn Pitcock sat this one out with a concussion. With the shutout, OSU will be the staunchest defense in the land, giving up less than 8 points a game. I'm saying it right now...this defense is superior to last year's defense, and dare I say it, perhaps the best in the country period. To hell with the SEC. A case in point may have been last year's game. I can't remember the exact numbers, but Mini ran UP the yards against the Bucks. If I remember correctly, they had over 500. This year, they had under 200, while OSU was busy running up 500 yards of offense of their own.
Coach Tressel was his usual self at the press conference, letting everyone know that the team played well, but didn't necesarily execute the way he wanted. It's what all the good ones do:
"I thought our defense did a heck of a job. Minnesota always has done a good job on offense. Quite honestly, they've been a little banged up losing their tight end and had some injuries up front. But I thought our defense did a great job of handling the tempo of the game, also coming up with the take-aways, which gave us great field position and I'm not sure we did offensively as great a job as we could have capitalizing on all the opportunities we had."
The only part of THIS game that had me scratching my head were the fumbles, but perhaps it had more to do with the weather than anything else. OSU had three, including one from TSmith, and ANOTHER fumble from CWells. Tressel, was as usual, pretty critical, but realistic about the turnovers:
"Well, it is distressing, there's no question about it, and we're not going to be as good a football team as we'd like to be if we continue to fumble and obviously Chris has got to work to make sure that that doesn't happen anymore, just like Troy had one, we can't let people come around our edge. And when they come around the edge, a quarterback's got to keep it tight. It's all related a little bit, but Chris is going to be one of our running backs and I'm sure he, more than anyone else, wants to make sure that he does what the team needs."
One final note of concern, and that is the injury front. Of course, Quinn Pitcock missed the game today because of a concussion, and AG was banged up today as well. That, along with Ginn's toe injury puts a bit of concern into my mostly non-concerned thoughts. But, with the Fighting ZookIN-I on the charts next week, I'm not worried yet.
The WOLVERQUEENS
Oh, the pundits will say that it was the weather. The Queen fans will say it had something to do with their panties being in a was (well, maybe that's just me saying that about them, but you and I both know it to be true). What do I say? MichiDrag WolverQueens suck, and they proved it again today.
They played Northwestern, who came into the game at 2-6, and have been realing since their head coach died before the start of the year. They were 30-point dogs coming into the game. It was the Queen homecoming. What happened? Well, thanks to 5 turnovers by Northwestern, the Queens were able to gain the field position edge, and therefore the game. They won 17-3. When they play OSU, the Queens are going to get smoked, mark my words.
USC
The lost, see you later, you are gone, and I think USC will lose again. This is one of the essential things that need to happen for OSU and Michigan to potentially meet two times in a row after OSU destroys them 3 weeks from now. OF course, when OSU destroys them three weeks from now, that will all but ensure them of sayonara. I'm just glad to see USC gone. They are nothing but recruiting, period. I would have liked to see OSU expose them this year, but we'll get that chance in the home and home that starts in a couple of years. All in all, a fantastic day of college football.
Three weeks until the MDrag WQueens get exposed for the fraud they are. And the bonus? Lloyd Carr won't get fired, so we get to throw him to the coles again next year.
One last comment--and it involves Notre Dame
Let me just say it now, that the buzz involving Notre Dame in the national title game will probably begin today. Notre Dame beat someone badly today, and Mr. GQWho? had 3 TD pass, 1 rushing TD, and 295 yards passing in the Charlie Weiss whine and cheese factory. Yeah, there's WVU and Louisville, but who's kidding who, if one of these teams is undefeated at the end, and Notre Dame is third, something will happen to get them to 2...Notre Dame that is. Yeah, there's Florida, who everyone LOVES, and almost lost to Georgia today, and the SEC is god...and blah...blah...blah...but they'll lose again. They are overrated, in an overrated conference...yeah, I said it. If Notre Dame beats USC, and I don't think they will. But if they do, and Florida loses, you will see OSU v. Notre Dame again, in the Fiesta, for all the marbles. Sorry Texas, we've already been there and done that.

I am starting to really hope it's Notre Dame in the national title game. I want to kick their asses again. Let the media hype them up. At least we know what we are getting with them, and we would win again.
You know Andy...the best part about the Bucks? This is one of those teams that is getting SOME hype...but just goes about their business like the underdog Bucks in '02. This is what makes Tressel an incredible coach.
